Hey all,

On the corner of 4th and Market (Old Navy), Trident is giving out free samples of Trident Splash. Apple Raspberry single packs. I'm guessing it's a new flavor they are trying to promote.

Let's consider the marketing behind the free gum:

1. Location : Being on the corner of Market and 4th is a high area for foot traffic. Many Muni buses like 5 Fulton,31 Balboa, and maybe the 21 Hayes run parallel to Market. On this corner The 9x Bruno? , 30 Stockton, and 45 Caltrain also pass by with a stop on the corner. "Let the buses bring the people to you.."

2. Timing: I got my free gum around 9:30am. Judging from the workers minimum fumbling around, I'm guessing they setup their giveaway at 9:00am. This is a perfect time to catch the morning blue-collars with their coffee in hand. "Hey you have coffee breath, have a Trident!"

3. Target Consumer: The only type of people you will find walking around downtown this early are adults. Most teens have started school by now. The woman who gave me my gum wore a yellow shirt with "Trident Helps Kids". "Wow Trident helps kids, I better buy some so they will help my kids too."


I like Trident, especially Trident White. I've bought several boxes of Trident White and I chew them like mad. Over the course of my gum chewing I haven't really noticed any changes in teeth whiteness. Perhaps I will blog a Trident Challenge and find out for sure if Trident really whitens your teeth.
